Final Word - 1/3/09 - The Politics of Airport SecurityThings just don't change much. Thanks for stopping by.
If you have read my blog already, you would guess that I am writing this piece while sitting on an airplane, and I would say you are right. However, I am not just bringing up this issue not just because I personally had to endure the task of going through airport security today, but also, it is the prime issue of a story that happened on New Year’s. A Muslim family was kicked off an AirTran Airlines flight from Washington, D.C. to Florida after a person nearby misinterpreted their comments. The airline has already apologized for their actions, and has plans to reimburse the family. Now back to the security issue itself. Security today has just gotten extremely outrageous. Half of the objects that they make a person take off themselves could not even possibly contain a device. You cannot even bring on a bottle of water. The substance of life, and you cannot bring it on. However, the biggest issue is not that, but rather, the racial profiling. As a white American, I never have any issues with security. But take that Muslim family from New Year’s. When people see them come in, they look at them like they are from another planet. Even security looks at them and thinks, “Bob, can you run that bag a second time,” even if they are the most innocent people on the face of the Earth. If we are going to profile, we need to profile across the board. Security needs reform, which is why I am proposing two new simple rules, which are: cut the unnecessary checks and profile across the board. That will make security much simpler and much less stressful for everyone. This is my final word. Goodnight.

The Vault - 7/14/09 - Airport Security
I fulfilled my American duty this weekend by enduring another case of airport security. I had to go college orientation at the University of Nevada on Friday and Saturday. The reason I am talking about this is because there is always some adventure. Thankfully, it was not me this time. However, one of my new friends had a misadventure over a bottle being too large. Now, this is nothing compared to an incident six months ago. Enjoy.
